Thinking Ahead

Doing any sort of writing about fashion, beauty, or lifestyle would be my ultimate goal whenever I have gained more experience in the fields of editing, writing, and media. In the world we live in, things are becoming progressively more digital and I feel as though this sort of blogging experience will be beneficial to add to my portfolio that we are creating as part of this class. My top 3 "dream careers" would be to work for Vogue (or and Conde Nast publication for that matter), a big technology superpower like Google, or maybe a smaller online publication such as WhoWhatWear/ an independent style of online blogging.

Thinking about the future is something I rarely do, simply because it is vast and there are so many opportunities to take advantage of. However, the one thing I have always dreamt of doing is working for Vogue Magazine in New York City. Like every other fashion enthusiast, Vogue is the top of the line and the indicator that you have "made it" in the fashion industry, simply because of it's notability in the fashion world. I think that working for this sort of publication would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be directly involved in the fashion world and to be able to see what all goes on behind the scenes in the most noteworthy fashion magazine in the world. I think that this sort of project would be indicative of my passion for fashion and would show that I am actively pursuing information and ideas about the ongoings in the fashion world. I think that the audience that this blog is catering towards would be similar to the kind of audience that Vogue is, being those extremely interested in fashion, however my approach focuses a bit more on a younger, college-aged audience, and unfortunately, most of us can't afford couture clothing to wear on a day-to-day basis. I think that my approach on the subject would demonstrate my unique perspective on the subject and could enlighten the editors of the publication about my views and if they would be interested in something similar.

On a totally opposite note, working for Google has always been an extremely interesting opportunity to me. Growing up, I was super involved in technology and I have been an avid user of Google since a young age. I think that seeing the way that it has transformed the world we live in has truly been an experience unlike any other. The company has relayed information to the public in a faster, more efficient manner than ever before and the ease of obtaining this information is insane to wrap your mind around. In addition to that, Google just looks like a really fun and unique work environment that includes experiences not found at many other employers. Though the information found in my blog may seem completely irrelevant in the sphere of what Google is all about, I think that actively running a blog and researching information online shows that there is a skill and interest in the type of tasks done by Google. I think that while the individuals working at the company may not be in my target audience, I think that using technology is a skill that is extremely beneficial to have in the 21st century.

Finally, I think that working for a smaller online publication or managing my own would be a really neat job as well. A website such as WhoWhatWear is a similar concept to what I am doing in this blog, simply informing an audience about the trends and I believe they generally cater to younger viewers. I think that having the capability to run an organize a blog shows to be beneficial to an employer such as WhoWhatWear because their website is organized in the same manner as a typical blog. However, I think that if they were to see this blog in a portfolio it could be beneficial to my hiring due to the fact that we focus on similar topics and are catering to a similar demographic, college students and young adults. I think that in any case, jobs including editing, writing, and media would be seeking out individuals who have experience such as managing a blog, social media, or other online forum as an asset to their resume. The use of this in our world today is becoming extremely more prevalent and can only continue to propel forward moving onwards.
